A 5th Monday means it has been two weeks since I've posted a Marvelous Middle Grade Monday post. I don't have one to share today, since I've been taking some time over the last couple of weeks to catch up with some of my favorite women's fiction authors. But, I did still want to write a post for you all today. Over the last couple of years I've rediscovered middle grade fiction and that I love it just as much as when I was in the middle grades of school. I'm not ashamed to admit that either! :) I can't wait until I can one day find a book of mine on the middle grade shelves of a bookstore.

But, back to women's fiction, I do have a few favorite authors that I still enjoy reading and sometimes need to relax and catch up with them. Do any of you have any adult authors you still can't live without? My absolute favorite is Debbie Macomber. Reading the history of how she was first published and the struggle to get there, actually gave me the boost to take the next step in my writing career. I'm excited for the first book of her new series that comes out this fall. Others I love - Robin Jones Gunn and Karen Kingsbury.
I'm also excited for Calico Joe, John Grisham's new book. I'm guessing that will probably be a summer read.
I will be back next Monday with a new MMGM, but until then, any other adult authors you can't live without? Or are middle grade or YA all you need?
And to get your MMGM fix today, check out my favorite links to the right!
I wish I read some adult books. There's so many middle grade and YA books to read that I had to stop reading adult books. I used to enjoy reading John Grisham.
ReplyDeleteI listened to Debbie Macomber on a couple of trips recently. It was a nice way to pass the time. She has a non-fiction book out about finding your purpose in life. I thought it was interesting, because she talks about her life of becoming an author.
ReplyDeleteI like the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. It's not "my type" of book at all, but she really drew me in! I fell in love with the characters.
When Barbara Kingsolver writes, I read! She has the most engaging characters and marvelous stories. My favorite might be Animal Dreams, but others of hers keep fighting for that spot -- maybe Prodigal Summer or Bean Trees. I once signed up for a seminar focused on Animal Dreams just so I could justify in my own mind taking the time to re-read that book.
ReplyDeletei love kidlit, but it's always a treat to take a break and read an adult book. i'm a big fan of john irving, and have been waiting for zadie smith's new book forever :)
ReplyDeleteUsually, MG and YA are all I have time to read! Working in the children's dept of a bookstore, I kind of have to. But I also love those books and I'm perfectly content reading them most of the year.
ReplyDeleteOnce or twice a year, though, I find I must read an adult novel, just for the sake of it. I've recently fallen in love with Anne Tyler's books. Her writing is so fluid and clear, and realistic. Read The Ladder of Years or Breathing Lessons.
Sometimes it feels good to read a grown-up book! :)

ReplyDeleteI don't read much adult fiction anymore, but one I loved is the super popular THE HELP. One of those books that changes you.
ReplyDeleteI rarely have time for adult fiction lately, but I have several that I enjoy. Joyce Carol Oats, Philippa Gregory and AmyTan to name a few... Sometimes you just have to hear an adult voice in your head.
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone, for stopping by and offering more great authors to check out!
ReplyDeleteI was entranced recently by George R.R. Martin's fantasy, A Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeleteMy mother (visiting from England) loves Debbie Macomber!
