Welcome to Perfect Picture Book Friday! I hope this post will be a help to those who love picture books and want to share them with their own children or those they teach.
BEAR
HAS A STORY TO TELLWritten by: Philip C. Stead
Illustrated by: Erin E. Stead
Roaring Book Press 2012
Fiction for ages 3 to 8
Themes: patience, friendship, animals
Opening and brief synopsis:
It was almost winter and Bear was getting sleepy.
Bear is getting sleepy, but before he falls asleep, he has a story to tell. He tries to tell his friends Mouse, Duck and Frog, but they are all too busy preparing for winter. Will Bear be patient enough to wait until Spring? And if he does, will he remember his story that he wants to share?
Why I like this book:
In the same vein as A Sick Day for Amos McGee (see my post from last fall), Philip and Erin Stead have created another wonderfully quiet book with characters children will love. Last fall I attended an evening with the Steads and learned about their creative process, especially how Erin illustrated Amos McGee. The time and effort she puts into her illustrations just amazes me!

ReplyDeleteA bear makes a perfect picture book...always.
ReplyDeleteI loved A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and just from the cover illustration and what you've said of the story, I know that I will love this one. I think I'll read it for one of my 31 picture books in 31 days. Thank you for adding it to PPBF!
ReplyDeleteI adore this book! The plot is a perfect example of a circular story. And the artwork is exquisite. How lucky that you got to meet the Steads!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I had not heard of this one and it looks so appealing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute cover and the title already has me hooked. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteHow awesome that you got to spend an evening with the Steads. This is on my library list!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe cover had me! What a wonderful story, but I want to know how it ends! Will have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check this out for Enzo. I'm curious, if he remembers the story. I don't always remember the ones I'm trying to tell during interruptions. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely story, Jennifer! I'm on a mission to read LOTS of new picture books...2011 and 2012 vintage! I'm doing Kathy Ellen's 31 in 31 and already have a pile from the library...guess I will have to reserve this one as well.:)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely. I'm probably going to be hunting for picture books starting next year for my little girl and this meme will be very handy.
